Welcome to Your Communities of Practice!
By Suzanne Carbonaro, Director of Academic Partnership, AEFIS
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Welcome to AEFIS Academy! AEFIS Academy is your center for communities of practice where you can learn, teach, collaborate, and innovate among the greatest minds and thought leaders in authentic assessment, learner success, skills recognition, and lifelong learning.
We are excited to assemble with you here as we work through some of today’s challenges and innovations in higher education teaching and learning, together by using the Communities of Practice model.”Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis” (Wenger et al, 2002). You can learn more about Communities of Practice by logging on and completing ACAD 100 Course. Take the link here to begin.
Joining AEFIS Academy is simple and free! Once you become a part of the community, you can participate and lead through these four main practices:
LEARN. Participate in learning activities, on-demand webinars, self-guided curricula, best practice guides, and more.
TEACH. Teach what you love! Share your knowledge and experience with your community, and help others.
COLLABORATE. Engage in communities of practice events, activities, and discussions with colleagues and friends.
INNOVATE. Join thought leadership in assessment, authentic learner success, and lifelong learning.
A big part of AEFIS Academy is the AEFIS Users Meeting anywhere (AUM-A, pronounced “Ohmmm”), a yearlong series of communities of practice events with activities to help our community learn, teach, collaborate, and innovate. AUM-A features on-line webinars, seminars, lectures, panel discussions, story-telling, discussions, recorded events, and differentiated learning resources. We discuss more about AUM-A in ACAD 100 Course.
Join us by registering for events, and get a feel for what we do as a community. Browse our community and find resources that help you. And don’t forget to take courses to earn points and grow as leaders of the community.
We look forward to learning together!
Best,
Suzanne &
the AEFIS Team
